Sundays Well Spent

A Sunday well spent brings a week of content. This Sunday meant yard work.

For the record, I’ll be doing yard work until noon the day of my funeral. With a large property, there’s never enough time or money. There will, however, always be plenty of work.

This particular day of fall feels textbook. Some sun, mild temps and low wind make the day perfect for brush cleanup and bonfires.

My sister recently shared a Tik Tok with me that is credited to a professional cleaner. She said the reason it’s easy for a professional to clean up after you is because they aren’t placing blame or making excuses. Instead, they spring into action.

So as a parent or roommate, you look around annoyed, that this or that is out of place. You get frustrated that others made the mess. As a pro, they say hmmm, what do I need to do first, second and so on?! Then they follow those steps until they are done.

Another professional says change your thinking:

Instead of thinking I only have 30 minutes therefore I can’t get anything done. Try thinking, I have 30 minutes HOW MUCH can I get done?! The race is on!

Game changers.

It’s Sunday. I don’t wanna. Instead of complaining the day away, Allen and I got to work. We did have breakfast first.

By 11:30, we were home from our errands and we got a fire going. Inside of 6 hours, we burned 6 loads of wood and dead burdock to prevent it from spreading. We planted some trees, and loaded up the truck to take to the dump in the morning. We shifted stuff in the shed and made a plan for winter for our geese.

We removed a section of fencing. The dogs are out in the sunshine and fresh air. As are the humans. The yard mess is considerably less than it was at lunch time.

Tomorrow I will probably be tired and sore. However, my mental clarity from getting those chores done, before the week begins, will likely carry me into the week.

The yard was a mess from multiple unfinished projects, children, adults, neglect and time. The difference, between last week and this, was new thinking.

Instead of the blame game, we just pushed our sleeves up and got to work. Rather than, it’s Sunday we’ll never get it all done. We think today is beautiful, let’s not waste it.

Today is the day the Lord has made, in that case, she thinks, get after it.

Maybe you missed the boat today. There’s 4 hours until bedtime, what can you get done?!
