Team No Sock

An NFL player was fined for not wearing the correct socks. Another, celebrating obnoxiously in the end zone, was asked to pony up.

By a show of hands, who would love to get paid millions of dollars to play games for a living?!

Hear me out. I work in the automotive industry. I wear composite toe boots on the daily. They protect my feet from being crushed in the event that a tool falls. They are, essentially, part of my uniform.

A construction worker is asked to wear a hard hat on the job site—it might be called a part of his uniform.

In the NFL’s rule book, it very specifically lists what can and cannot be worn—in fact there’s an entire page on socks! Why are you the exception?

You are hired to do a job. You are a professional athlete. Notice how it says professional in front of the athlete?!

In this example, Ty Hill has been fined over $100,000 for his lack of hosiery. What a crybaby! He clearly has too much money to be able to dig his heels in (pun intended)

Shame on him. Shame on the level of entitlement we, as Americans, have come to allow and even expect. Shame on the owner, the other teammates and the NFL.

Put this man on the bench, unpaid. But no. Instead, let’s put him on a pedestal. He’s an athlete. Without watching his play, my life will come to an end. 🙄

These “professional” athletes are paid ridiculous sums of money to play a game. Think of the millions of children idolizing this, and many other, foolish players. Gross.

Now the NFL long sock policy dates back to 1945, I’m told. Many may see it as antiquated. I see it as an employment rule, and thusly, a breach of contract.

About that end zone dance. You scored a touchdown. You are a professional athlete. This is the equivalent of me completing a detail job. It’s 100% what I’m paid to do. If it’s not the Super Bowl, don’t dance. It’s bad form.

Wear the freaking socks. Donate your $100k to charity, or I’ll take it for my daughter’s rodeo fund. Either way, train your hardest, follow the rules, cheer on your team and shut your mouth. You’re hired to play.
